5 Months Old

Oliver turned 5 months old yesterday.  He is just like a beam of sunshine in our family.  He is so happy.  Just looking at him from across the room can bring a huge smile on his face.

He laughs way more than Madeline ever did.  He usually laughs the most when he is startled.  So, playing peek a boo really gets some good laughs.

I weighed him on our scale a couple of weeks ago and he was 16.5 lbs.  That puts him close to the 75% for weight.  So, he is definitely growing and eating well.  He is still a very distracted eater.  He eats the best when it is quiet and Madeline is no where around.  He usually gets part of a bottle at least once a day because he is either distracted or he is still hungry.  But, now that he is eating solids, the bottle supplementing has really slowed down.  He is still eating his solid food very well.  He has had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, applesauce and butternut squash with nary a complaint.

He is sleeping pretty good.  He goes to bed somewhere between 9-11pm and wakes up between 7-9am.  Sometimes he wakes up for another feeding before I go to bed and sometimes he sleeps right to his middle of the night feeding around 4:30-5:30.  I usually have to give him his pacifier once a night.  Once he gets a little better at putting it in his mouth on his own, then he is probably going to Sleep Bootcamp like Madeline did around 5 months old.  His sleep during the day varies a lot.  If we are home all day, then he will take 2 2-3 hour naps.  If we are out for the morning then he will take little naps while he is in the sling and then take a long afternoon nap (3-4 hours).  He just goes with the flow.  Which is great!

He is rolling around like crazy.  He rolls to get where he wants to go.  He acts like he really wants to crawl.  He gets frustrated when things are out of his reach.  But, I think he has a few more months before he is able to do that.  He isn't even getting up on his knees yet.  He can sit up a little on his own if he has the Boppy around him or we are sitting close by to catch him.  But, he is able to sit up in the double stroller as long as he is strapped in.

He adores his big sister.  He can't keep his eyes off of her.  He laughs and smiles at her all day long.  (I think the feelings are mutual.)

He goes to the nursery at church now.  It is much easier to leave him than Madeline.  Madeline has lots of separation anxiety.  But, he is happy to play with anyone.

He enjoys the Johnny Jump Up, the Exersaucer and his floor mat thingy.  He's happy to sit up on the counter in his Bumbo and watch what's going on.

He soaks through a bib in about an hour and he chews on his fingers a lot.  But, still no sign of teeth.  He has his first cold right now.  It is a little hard for him to eat and breath.  But, he is a trooper.

He is so easy going and fun.  It is really sweet to see the relationship growing between him and Madeline.  He is able to interact with her more now and she loves it.  Life with out little guy is a blast!  Happy 5 Month Birthday, Oliver!

These pictures are incredible! I can't get over Oliver's eyes and his wispy blonde hairs growing in. He's such a beautiful and handsome baby. Delicious.

I love the lighting in your photos and love that you're posting bigger ones on the blog. Did you take all of these at your place? Your new header is sooo fun, too.
