6 Months Old!
Oliver turned 6 months old today, on Mother's Day! I can't believe this first year is half way over. But, he is certainly getting more and more fun (not that he wasn't fun before). He is still such a happy baby. He gets lots of attention when we are out because he will usually smile at anyone who looks at him. (And of course, all that blonde hair brings a little attention as well.)
He is getting pretty good at sitting up on his own. If I leave him by himself, then I put the Boppy around him. But, he is getting close to not needing it anymore. He is enjoying his toys like this music stage, his exersaucer and anything that crinkles (paper, plastic, etc). He especially still loves his Johnny Jump Up.
His toes are another favorite toy.
I could eat 'em up too :)
Since he is getting better at sitting up, he is able to do lots of new things. He loves to swing. He sat in a high chair at a restaurant for the first time tonight. He has super grabby hands though. So, you have to clear like a 5 foot radius around him or else it will be on the floor in about 2.3 seconds. He can sit in the shopping cart at the grocery store. He enjoys riding in the stroller next to Madeline.
He is still super close to crawling. He has crawled a few steps. But, mostly he still army crawls or wiggles to get where he wants to go. He is drooling like crazy, but has two beautiful teeth to show for it. I'm sure some more will be coming soon. He is taking baths in the big bath tub now. He was getting too squirmy for the baby bath. So, Madeline uses the baby bath and Oliver uses the big one. Go figure. It is like a wrestling match to change his diaper or clothes. He does not stay on his back for long.
He has been sleeping great for the past week. We didn't have to do sleep bootcamp at all with him (at least not yet). He just started sleeping through the night on his own. He goes to bed around 9-10 and sleeps until about 8 in the morning. I don't even have to give him his paci usually. So, I am like a new person getting a full night of uninterrupted sleep. He wakes up so happy in the mornings and will play for about 30 minutes before I get him. He usually takes 2 long naps (3ish hours) during the day, if we are home. Otherwise, he will sleep in his carseat or sling for about 20 minutes and then be ready to go again.
He is eating pretty well. We go to the doctor on Friday. So, we will see how much he has grown. He usually nurses pretty well when we are home. But, he has a harder time while we are out or traveling. So, he takes a bottle very well. He is eating solid foods for breakfast and dinner. Sometimes for lunch as well if we are at home. He loves cold water in his sippy cup and will actually drink his bottles straight out of the fridge as well. He has had rice cereal, oatmeal, peas, green beans, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas, pears, apples and peaches. I haven't seen any complaints out of him except for a few shivers from the apples and pears being a little tart maybe. But, he still ate them.
Oliver was dedicated to the Lord at church this morning. We don't have any pictures yet. But, we are promising to raise him up in the Lord. And praying that he will come to know that he is a sinner and in need of Jesus' blood to cover his sin at an early age. As Madeline would say, we dedicated him, "So he can learn about Jesus. Because Jesus died on the cross."
Happy Half Birthday Oliver! We love you so much and are so happy you are our son. You have brought so much joy to our lives!
