Baby Shower

I had a wonderful baby shower this past weekend! It was so humbling to have so many people spend their Saturday afternoon celebrating our new little girl. But, I was so encouraged to be surrounded by so many wonderful people. My childhood friend, Jaime and my cousin, Leigh Ann threw me the shower. Jaime put so much thought and effort into the shower. It was so encouraging to, not only me, but everyone there. Leigh Ann made the beautiful cake and the rest of the food.





I am so happy that my mother-in-law was able to come.




We received so many wonderful gifts including this blanket that my Aunt Phyllis crocheted.




My mom enjoyed pretending to hold her grandbaby in all her new clothes.

I was so excited to see my college roommates at the shower.

One of them flew in from Florida, another drove all the way from Alabama and one came from Virginia Beach. We missed seeing Jeni, but we hope to see her for New Year's and the next 2 baby showers coming up at the beginning of 2008. I'm sad we didn't all get a picture together. So, if one of you girls have one, let me know.

Richard and Michelle Grier

We had the pleasure of attending Richard and Michelle's wedding the other weekend. Richard is Andrew's friend from work. (He is also the Scottish, guitar player from the holiday posts about their company band, in case you recognized that kilt). I have gotten to hang out with Richard and Michelle a few times (especially at company parties) and they are a lot of fun. We wish them a long and happy marriage!



Their family tried to teach everyone a Scottish dance at the reception. It was fun to watch. Michelle's dress looked so pretty twirling around the dance floor.

Roses

Andrew came home from work one day last week with a huge bouquet of roses. They are absolutley beautiful. He even blew the bowl that the roses are in. I am so blessed to have such a giving and loving husband. He shows me all the time how much he loves me. I can't wait to see him as a father. I know it is going to be so sweet.


I think he has entered the "nesting" stage of pregnancy. He has painted our laundry room and is painting our downstairs bathroom now as I am typing this blog. I don't know when I will get into this stage. I am pretty content sitting here at the computer and blogging. :)

A lovely weekend with Jenny and Chris

This past weekend, Jenny and Chris came up from Virginia beach for a visit. It was so fun having friends for the weekend. Our time was filled with a trip to the pumpkin patch, some Wii and Guitar Hero playing, Chris' first trip to Chipotle, Ledo's Pizza (with an angry patron sitting at the table behind us), some Dairy Queen, seeing someone's truck shrink wrapped, watching youtube videos (Chaaarrrrlie! Charlieeeeee!) and just good ole hangin' out time. I believe that we stayed up until 2:30 on Friday night. Which is unheard of in this house. I don't usually make it past 10pm.


Just in case you couldn't tell, that is my belly sticking through the apple. Maybe next year we can put our little girl's actual face through the apple like normal people.


Chris is only a few months behind me. I think he is due at the end of February. :)


Jenny had a hard time picking her pumpkin off the vine. At least we know that the farm didn't ship in a bunch of pumpkins and dump them in the field.

Chris brought his IPhone, which Andrew is completely giddy over. Andrew couldn't put it down all weekend.

I think I should have been a rock star. We definitely need Guitar Hero for our Wii when it comes out in October.

Crib

Well, this is where our little girl is going to be spending the next few years of her life sleeping. Well, at least until she figures out how to climb out of it.



Thanks Julie for all the bedding! I think it works perfectly. (For those of you who don't know, Julie is my aunt, whose little girl is no longer using her crib bedding and has grown out of a lot of really cute clothes that are now in our little girl's closet. We are so excited to start putting her in all the cute little clothes. So, thanks again, Julie and Abby!)



We also bought some fun blocks to put in this giant jar. Just thought I'd share.

A funny little story for ya:

When I went to pick up my students from recess today, one of my little girls said, "I can see your baby's nose poking out. It is really little", as she held up her little fingers together to show how small my baby's nose was. I had to tell her it was just my belly button sticking out a little bit.

New Washer and Dryer

For those of you who were extremely concerned about the pile of dirty clothes that was accumulating at our house, I have good news! We got a new washer and dryer on Sunday. They work wonderfully and I can fit so much more into my new washer. And best of all, there is absolutely no water pouring through our light fixtures and exhaust fans. It is fabulous!

Wishy Washy Washer Woman

Well, I was trying to be a good house wife on Thursday. I had already finished one load of laundry and was beginning another one. It was also 9:00pm, so it was time to settle in for some Grey's Anatomy and finish a few interim reports for my students. But, of course, being 7 months pregnant, I had to use the bathroom first. But, as I walk into the bathroom, I hear a stream of water. My first thought was that, for some reason, the bathtub was left running a little bit. But, as I turn on the light and get a better look, there is water pouring out of our exhaust fan. Hmmm.... that's a little strange. (Just so you know, our laundry room is above our masterbath and closet.) So, I run upstairs to see what is going on. Well, our laundry room was quickly flooding with water. I turned off the washing machine, but it just keeps flowing. There is a little plastic tub under our washer to catch water in the case of a washer emergency. But, it had several cracks in it and it was doing absolutely nothing.



I called Andrew to let him know about the situation going on at home and he started on his way back (which I hate, because he was actually working on making doors for the giant fish tank stand) While I was waiting for him to get home. I put a ton of towels down to start soaking up the water. I also pulled all the clothes out of the washer and started bailing the water out because it appeared that the wash basin was leaking. I got out 3 big buckets of water out and the water started flowing a little slower.



I had to get more towels out of our closet downstairs and realized that our light fixture was full of water as well. There is no water damage in the ceilings. It all just came through the exhaust fan and light fixture. A little weird and a little scary.



Andrew finally came home and helped clean up the mess and empty the scary light fixture full of water. Needless to say, we had to get a new washer. We spent all night last night looking for new washers. And I missed Grey's Anatomy for the second week in a row. I really need TIVO.

Jude David Lookabill

On our way to Roanoke this past weekend, we stopped by to visit Josh and Tabitha Lookabill and their newest addition, Jude David Lookabill. He was born on Wednesday, September 26. He weighed 6lbs 3 oz. He is such a beautiful baby and we are so excited for our little ones to be friends. Thanks for letting us stop by, Josh and Tabitha, even though you were super tired.

Simmons Family Reunion

Andrew and I went down to Roanoke, Va this past weekend for the annual Simmons Family Reunion. We had a wonderful time seeing family that we hadn't seen since last year's reunion and we enjoyed some awesome food.

It was also nice to hang out with my family for the weekend. It isn't very often that my Dad, Mom, brother, Andrew and I are able to get together. We had a good time playing some Wii and eating ice cream. :)

My brother helped me pick out a good shirt to wear to the reunion from his stash of "tacky-roller-skating" clothes. I ended up changing into something a little cooler since it was outside.

Just so you know, I am playing hide-and-poke with our little girl right now. It is still a fun game for me. :)
